Weddings and More

Weddings, Christenings, Memorial Services, Home Blessings and more... all are among the ways we can support you in your desire to recognize and celebrate the spiritual dimensions of the passages in your life and the lives of your loved ones.

Our minister, the Rev. Luz is available to officiate at weddings, memorials, and other special occasions and sacred life passages.  Contact us at 352-746-1270.

We can help make one of the most important days of your life even more meaningful. Unity is a Christian church where people of all faiths may be married. Our minister can officiate at your wedding in our sanctuary or in a scenic location of your choice --an outdoor garden, in your favorite hotel, at home, or another special place.

Christening is an ancient ritual that predates even the earliest Christian traditions. The rite and the interpretation of its meaning have undergone many changes over time, and today christening is practiced in many different ways. The purpose of Christening is to recognize the spiritual identity and purpose of a soul. In Unity, we look to the example of Jesus as our guide. In Mark 10: 13-16 we read that Jesus took children in his arms and blessed them.

Christening in Unity is the act of welcoming a child into our world and recognizing this soul by name in its human journey. It is a time for parents to dedicate themselves to raising their child in an awareness of God's loving presence.

You may choose as many people as you wish, or have no Godparents. There is no legal obligation or responsibility made through a Christening service.

Spiritual Baptisms

Individual Baptism ceremonies are available for infants and adults.  Many adults baptized as infants choose to be baptized again as adults to renew their spiritual expression of God in a conscious way.

We do not baptize in the traditional Christian sense of washing away original sin.  Our baptism ceremony is not intended to wash away sin.  Rather, it is an acknowledgement and appreciation that you are a child of God joining us on this planet in human dimensions.   All of us experience our consciousness becoming clouded by the shadows and illusions of this human experience.  This keeps us from truly reflecting that part of us that is created in the image and likeness of God.  Nevertheless, the pure essence of who you are remains intact and radiates with pure loving energy.   Baptism is a ritual that symbolizes the cleansing of your consciousness so that you can truly reflect the loving Presence of Christ in you.

The ceremony includes elements of Holy Water, rose petals and anointing with sacred oil.  The blessed water symbolizes the purity of Spirit within.  The roses are symbols of the Christ presence in our lives.   In ancient times those in prayer often reported the scent of roses as a symbol of the Christ presence. Rose petals have for a long time represented love.  The sacred oil is used to honor the divine spirit in you.

Memorial Services
At the time of the passing of a loved one, many people want a service and don't know where to turn. We are here to support people in times of grief and loss. We can provide services in our sanctuary or at the location of your choice. Our services are positive, uplifting celebrations of the life lived. We honor each person's spiritual traditions.

Home Blessings
A private home blessing ceremony acknowledges and honors your home as sacred space, a sanctuary of love, peace and joy. Many people request a home blessing as they settle into a new home or apartment, but a home blessing ceremony is appropriate at any time, whether you have just moved in or have lived in your home for many years.
